When your children reach Grade 9 and Grade 11, they'll be faced with some important decisions about their future. It's not always easy working out which path to take in your education, especially when you're 13 or 15 years old, but whatever their aptitudes, we'll help them make the right choice.
At Kalvi School, we support and advise all our students as they decide which direction their educational journey will take.
Pre - Primary School - Nursery to K.G. IIThe Kalvi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, with a homely atmosphere and a low child-teacher ratio, offers an exciting early learning experience for children aged between 2+ to 5 years. We strive to provide a safe and happy environment in which children are encouraged to develop social, emotional, cognitive and motor skills through play.
Even while maintaining students' natural curiosity and confidence in them as learners, we develop behaviors that will enable them to become active and focused learners in a classroom setting. The curriculum is Play-based and Child-centered; recognizing students' multiple intelligences. A day at Kindergarten involves much free play, both indoors and outdoors, and structured time. Indoor free play is based around a series of activities: Dramatic Play, Blocks / Building, Sensory, Art and Discovery/ Science. Outdoor play is available on the playground. Structured learning takes place at Circle and Music Times as well as during Art and Craft activities. All these activities integrate the Theme of the Week. The themes are developed based on the interests of the children and emphasis is laid on fun and enrichment. Children's progress is monitored closely by our committed staff through a planned developmental continuum for each area.
The following formal areas of learning are addressed in a structured manner:
- Phonetics, Reading and Language Arts
- Mathematics-Numeracy
- Science
- The five senses
- Development of inquiry and thinking skills
- Health Nutrition
- Safety
- Social Studies
- Music, Movement, Drama
- Drawing and sculpture
Kalvi School covers a period of five years wherein the scope and depth of learning increases gradually, while opportunities for play and creative expression continue to complement learning. The emphasis in the first two years (Grades 1 and 2) is on language with the introduction of a second language, on mathematics in practical terms and on the environment, encouraging observation and discovery. Children also use the computer as a tool for learning and communication.
In the Upper Primary (Grades 3 to 5) children begin to use their acquired skills in language and mathematics to take the initiative in learning, and teaching is designed to this purpose. Care is taken by teachers to ensure individual attention and the purpose of assessment is to reflect the quality of the students' understanding. There is a broadening of the curriculum in Grades 4 and 5 as well as an increase in cognitive challenge.
Middle School - Grades 6 to 8During the three years of Middle School education, the student's intellectual, aesthetic, physical and cultural growth and development are intensified and extended to a foundation course designed to suit children from an international background.
The Curriculum aims to produce confident and competent learners, who are able to communicate effectively. Our teachers encourage group interactions such as developing learning communities, stimulating student/faculty discussions, and encouraging electronic exchanges. Opportunities are also sought beyond the classroom to broaden the experience and learning of each child through visits and field trips.
